John Brown Lives! is pleased to co-host Help from the People Up North: Civil Rights Activism from Vermont to Mississippi on Tuesday, February 25, at 7:00 PM.
This illuminating talk by historian Pamela Walker explores a little-known yet vital story of Civil Rights activism—one that connected Black families in the South with white allies in the North through the U.S. Postal System. At the heart of this history is the Box Project, an initiative founded by Vermont pacifist Virginia Naeve. Through letters and care packages, women built relationships across racial and geographic divides, providing direct material support to families in Mississippi and fueling the broader Civil Rights Movement.

Dr. Walker, an assistant professor of history at the University of Vermont, is currently writing Signed, Sealed, Delivered: How Black and White Mothers Used the Box Project and the Postal System to Fight Hunger and Feed the Mississippi Freedom Movement.
Join us for this important discussion on the power of personal connection and grassroots activism.
Suggested donation: $5 / Free for students
We look forward to seeing you there!
