We were glad to see Adirondack Explorer mark the fifth year of the Adirondack Family Book Festival, a celebration that has quickly become a highlight of the summer in Lake Placid. What began as a one-day gathering has grown into a vibrant, community-centered event bringing together children’s and young adult authors, illustrators, and readers of all ages.
The festival offers a rare chance for kids and families to connect directly with book creators—through readings, conversations, and hands-on activities—while reinforcing the joy of storytelling and the importance of access to books. Free and open to the public, it reflects a broader commitment to literacy, creativity, and the freedom to read in the Adirondacks.
